Student hats were introduced, in 1873, in Denmark,
with inspiration from the first Nordic student
meetings in 1867. The, then official hat, was black
with silver piping and silver cockade, which
symbolized the Danish flag – Dannebrog.
The unofficial summer hat was with white crown.

In the 1880s, the hat with bordeaux band and the
white crown, accepted, and then seen as the real
student hat with colours as Dannebrog.
